The Perfect Partnership

Survival Skills has been running for over a decade, and was one of the very first schools to offer flexible but structured training courses aimed at the differing needs of newly qualified riders, returning riders and experienced riders.

By using a combination of structured training and fault-fixing training based on riding assessments, our on -road training will offer new ideas for you to try as well as the opportunity to fix existing problems, using modern training aids like radios and on-bike video. Most courses are a mixture of theory and discussion sessions, mixing practical riding tuition with exploring theory.

What people say...

"Kevin takes a pragmatic approach to advanced rider training. He's trying to teach techniques that help real motorcyclists deal with real situations in a practical way... he doesn't preach, doesn't lay down dogmatic rules about 'the way' to do it, but just shows you a variety of different techniques to defend yourself on the road and to improve your cornering, overtaking and observation. His approach to riding is methodical but not mechanical"

David Fickling
February 2002

I swear that Kevin is the most sensible talking, straight-up, common sense biker I've ever seen in 20 years... I stop and listen when he's on. I might learn something that will save my life even if I consider myself very experienced.

Mark
February 2006

"...excellent day's riding... well worth it for all levels from beginner to knee-down"

Tim Bicknelle
March 1999

"£95 for 5 hours of life-saving fun is cheap entertainment. Go for it."

Murray Sheppard
June 2001

"I'm more than happy to endorse the course - everyone should do one. Oh, and it was great fun"

Tim Featherstone-Griffin
August 98

"Thanks for your time over the past two days. I have found the skills already coming into practice"

Ian Davies
September 2000

"...thanks again for a great day's training. I thoroughly enjoyed my ride home - I had so much more confidence in both myself and my bike. It's amazing what a difference a day can make!"

Julie Fitchett
April 2003

"Just wanted to say a big "thank you" for the training last week - you somehow managed to take me from the "nervous wreck" to the "maybe I can do this after all" stage!"

Karen Bennett
March 1999

Survival Skills Advanced Course (for all riders)

The two day advanced course looks at real-world riding skills in comprehensive detail. Brush up the basics, knock bad habits on the head and learn advanced riding techniques. Key areas of training include:

  • hazard perception and systematic riding
  • cornering skills
  • machine handling including steering and braking

Above all the aim of the course is to allow you to get more enjoyment whilst riding in greater safety.

Bends Course (for all riders)

The one day Bends course focuses firmly on the fun part of riding and offers a plan for dealing with corners on the open road.

Confidence Builder (for newly qualified riders)

If you have recently passed your motorcycle test, you'll know there is still a lot to learn!

A one day Confidence Building course will move you up from test standard, help you adapt to your new bike and prepare you for a full Survival Skills course at a later date.

Creaky Rider (for returning riders)

If you've not been on a bike for a bit, why not take some of the stress of getting back in the swing by taking a one day "Creaky Rider" course, and let us remind you of the do's and don'ts of biking?

Continental Riding Course

Why take your training around roads you already know? Improve your riding skills and ride some great roads within 50 miles of Calais, and an easy day out from Kent with an experienced instructor and guide. An excellent introduction to riding abroad, our carefully chosen routes encompass a variety of hazards including a range of hairpin bends - excellent preparation for that touring holiday to the Alps or the Pyrenees

Assessment

Survival Skills is now running 3 hour riding assessments, costing just £50 , where you can have your riding checked out by a qualified instructor and then be recommended the best course to continue your development as a rider.

"I'd like to simply say the roads you took us to were outstanding, and leave it at that, but there are so many other good things that happened that make me think this course will be remembered by me forever"

Steve Kelly
June 2000
